Total greenhouse gas emissions
Total emissions in millions of tonnes. Five main greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere are water vapour (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), dinitrogen monoxide (N2O), methane (CH4) and ozone (O3). In addition, there are gases in the atmosphere which result from human activities only, such as sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and perfluorocarbons (PFC), listed in the Kyoto Protocol. The main greenhouse gases result from natural processes, but their concentration has been increasing steadily in the atmosphere over the past few hundred years due to human activity.
2018: 20.2 million tonnes
In “Estonia 2035” and Government Action Plan, yellow leaves indicate that the indicator value is improving but lacks direction or the desired result has not been achieved.
