The percentage shows the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption. Renewable energy is energy from non-fossil sources: wind, solar, geothermal, wave and tidal energy, hydropower, biomass, landfill gas, gas from wastewater treatment and biogas. Final energy consumption refers to the consumption of energy that is obtained and consumed after all interim conversions into other forms of energy (electricity, heat, fuel). Final consumption excludes the use of fuel as a raw material, power plant consumption and losses.
The indicator is also a measure of performance in the Estonian National Strategy on Sustainable Development and the Government Action Plan.
