Formal learning provides the core knowledge, skills and competences that are recognised in the society, whereas their acquisition is usually formally assessed (preprimary and basic education; general and vocational education; higher education (incl. Master's and doctoral studies)). Non-formal learning is based on specific training programmes and intended for specific groups (occupational training, language learning, art classes etc.).
