Emissions of acidifying pollutants
Acid rain refers to precipitation with acidic components. Acid rain is caused by the emission of various pollutants (SO2, NOx, NH3) which react with rainwater, thereby producing acids. The total anthropogenic emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and ammonia (NH₃) in tonnes of acidifying equivalent.
